Welcome to Travel and Tourism
Travel and Tourism has consistently been one of the top performing departments at KS4. Students continue to achieve well in excess of their target grades. In the last 4 years it has had a 100% pass rate at grade ‘C’ or above demonstrating the department’s efforts in ensuring a fully inclusive subject. Travel and Tourism is noted for its excellent student support. All students receives individual and personalised guidance which meets their specific needs of students and monitors there progress, helping them achieve their full potential. The Travel and Tourism department has developed an inclusive learning community where every student feels valued and supported and the can-do mentality is at the forefront with students learning with enthusiasm and developing confidence in taking on tasks and challenges in the years ahead.
Currently Travel and Tourism is taught by Mr Warnock the Assistant Business College Director.
The subject is based in the school Business and Enterprise Block in one of the recently refurbished ICT suites. The majority of coursework is completed using various forms of ICT. Use of the schools learning portal and pupil emails plays an increasingly important role in allowing students to complete work at home and informing parents of pupil progress. Learning in Travel and Tourism never stops. Students have access to the Travel and Tourism room and Mr Warnock’s expertise in morning, during school breaks and after school, again offering students the opportunity to take responsibility for their own learning but being fully supported with this.
Travel and Tourism offers a course which is taught in vocationally related scenarios providing a good grounding to move onto the next level in this area at College. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations suitable for students of your ability. This qualification is highly valued by colleges and employers alike and many students choose to study this at a higher level. Alternatively you may enter the world of work and continue your training with an employment provider.
Some specific areas that you will look at are, The UK Travel and Tourist industry, Customer service, UK, European and Worldwide holiday destinations, Cruise operations, planning a study visit and nature and effects of world travel.. The subject is 100% coursework based (no exam!) which means that you will be provided with a lot of homework and deadlines to meet.
Travel and Tourism results are consistently one of top performers in school with many students achieving well in excess of their target grades
You will undertake a range of learning visits. In previous years we have visited London (overnight stay), Blackpool Tower, Grand Theatre, Trafford Centre, Old Trafford and the Coca-Cola factory. Learning visit destinations vary year to year. These learning visits should not be your main consideration when selecting the course.
