Welcome to Business Studies

Business Studies equips students for a career in a wide range of industries as business underpins more or less any job you might have in the future – from starting your own enterprise to working for a charitable organisation.  The work of the department focuses on independent learning using a variety of ‘real life ‘business scenarios.  We study the business environment of our local area to gain a greater understanding of the business world around us.

We have 2 teachers to aid delivery of the KS4 curriculum and 6 teachers to aid the delivery of the KS3 curriculum.  At KS4 all students have access to ICT equipment for every lesson and the majority of KS3 lessons are taught in an ICT suite.

At KS3 the Enterprise curriculum accesses Personal Learning and Thinking skills.  These skills are transferable for all subject areas.  Particular areas of focus are Personal finance, enterprise scenarios such as Creative Chocolate, Creative Common Rooms and Creative Board Games.  Students have the opportunity to use their creativity to prepare products using their PLTs.

At KS4 students have the opportunity to study BTEC First Level 2 Extended Certificate in Business which is equivalent to 2 GCSE grades A*- C.  This incorporates business purposes, business organisation, financial forecasting for business, and people in organisations and customer relations in business.

KS4 Business results are always high, in 2010 all pupils reached their target grade or above.

In Enterprise we pride ourselves on a range of extracurricular activities.  We participate in many enterprise competitions.  Business students have the opportunity to use their skills and be part of the award winning Prom Fayre team and Water Shed.

All students are actively encouraged to use the BEC rooms before school, during breaks, lunchtimes and after school to further their studies.
