Welcome to PE
The P.E. department aims to provide all pupils with the skills to enjoy a wide range of sports. Pupils at Key Stage 3 have two 1 hour lessons a week and at Key Stage 4 a 1 hour core lesson. These lessons are taught in the school’s outstanding sports facilities. We also offer pupils the opportunity to study GCSE P.E. and Btec Sport & Leisure.
We have a strong commitment to high standards in a range of school sports teams, including Athletics, Badminton, Cricket, Cross-Country, Football, Hockey, Netball, Rugby League and Rounders. We regularly achieve success at local and regional level. The P.E. department also provides all pupils, regardless of ability, the opportunity to take part in a vast range of activities that develops their physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being and promoting success and enjoyment.
We are a member of the School Sport Partnership, working together with our SSCO’s/CSC’s and our Family and Feeder primary schools to raise the standards of P.E. provision in those schools. As part of this programme we run a variety of high-quality sports festivals for local primary schools throughout the year. This also helps Year 6 pupils to become familiar with our department and school.
KS3 & KS4 National Curriculum
PE develops pupils’ competence and confidence to take part in a range of physical activities that become a central part of their lives, both in and out of school. A high-quality PE curriculum enables all pupils to enjoy and succeed in many kinds of physical activity. They develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are performing, they think about what they are doing, analyse the situation and make decisions. They also reflect on their own and others’ performances and find ways to improve them.
Within KS3 PE, pupils cover a range of activities including:
Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Cycling, Dance, Danish Longball, Dodgeball, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Netball, Rounders, Rugby, Softball, Tri-Golf, Ulitmate Frisbee and Volleyball.
Within these lessons pupils focus on:
* Outwitting opponents.
* Accurate replication.
* Exploring and communicating ideas, concepts and emotions.
* Performing at maximum levels.
* Identifying and solving problems.
* Exercising safely and effectively.
