Welcome back Year 9!

I hope you all had a very merry Christmas, spending time with those who are important to you.

As your APCO I would like to wish you all the best for this new year. I hope that 2012 will be full of enthusiastic team work, motivated learning and enjoyment through strong bonds between you and your teachers.

Miss Mitchell has set up a ukelele band for the whole school.  We meet at lunchtime on a Wednesday and have had 2 practices so far.  We are busying ourselves with our strumming in readiness for the Christmas Concert.  It’s great fun – there’s a mixture of boys and girls and of ages and it doesn’t matter if you’ve never played before.  There’s even some staff who go, including Mrs. Cross and Mr McGuinness.  Ukelele sales must have gone through the roof because we’re all mad keen despite the blisters on our fingers.  Don’t worry if the next time you come to English, I wander through with my ukelele – I may consider including a short song in all my lessons!  I’m juststringing you along there…I won’t really!  (Did you see what I did there?)

Welcome back Year 9. Hopefully you will have had a fantastic summer, and are ready to take on the year ahead of you. This is a key year for you all, and the decisions you make now could have an important  affect on your future careers.

Fresher’s Week proved to be a great opportunity to work together as teams, and understand the importance of team spirit and co-operation. 9JY were our winning sports team, showing skill, effort and great teamwork. We also saw some eggstremely creative and inventive designs for the egg safety packaging; showing what you can do when faced with a challenge.

As your new Academic Progress Co-ordinator (APCO), I want to help celebrate your achievements. Year 8 and Year 9 are going to be launching our new award “Pupil of the Month”, for Oustanding Effort and the Continued Commitment to our Community Ethos.

Work hard Year 9, use your homework to extend and reinforce your learning, and you will reap the rewards of all your effort when it comes to Monitoring & Action, Presentation Night and of course, your GCSEs.

Good Luck!

Miss Cole
