Welcome to St George’s School

Thank you for showing an interest in the post we have recently advertised at St George’s School, A Church of England Business & Enterprise College.

If you have lived locally you will not need me to tell you how much St George’s has changed in the last ten years; if you are from further afield you may be interested to hear of the scale of the changes. These have included a doubling of the school roll (now at about 980 students), a similar expansion of staff to support our young people and some transformational buildings. Inward investment to support the demand for places has left us with a school site and school facilities which are enviable. Most visitors comment on the quality of the working environment and the ICT infrastructure to support it.

Of course all of this change has required careful management, as has our transition to VA Church of England status and the integration of our specialism, achieved at the first attempt! This was followed by the National Benchmark for Excellence awarded by Warwick University in 2008. Our school remains oversubscribed during a time of falling primary rolls and we are clearly the school of choice within the Community. Parents have responded well to the school’s “brand”: traditional values and modern ambition. The school will be full again in September and can anticipate inevitable changes in education funding and working practices with some confidence.

Following our recent Ofsted Inspection (January 2011) which confirmed the School as “Good with Outstanding features” and with an “Outstanding” SIAS (Church School) Inspection we are naturally ambitious, looking for even greater achievements in the future. Ofsted have written about this in the report stating “increasing ambition and high morale are palpable in the school”. Leadership was described as “strong and principled” and “intelligent”!

The clear challenge now is to accelerate our improvement whilst holding fast to the areas of excellence which have been nurtured, strengthened and are valued so highly. Students agree that the quality of care, guidance and support is a major strength of the school: “better than excellent” (Ofsted) but equally, we know that there can be no complacency and we are always looking to strengthen our staff team and broaden our expertise.

Visits to our school are always welcome and time to look round and to meet students is also built into all our selection processes. We very much look forward to hearing from you and sharing our ideas and our plans with you. In the meantime, however, should you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to telephone the Head’s PA, Mrs Baxter, or email her
