St George’s School presented awards to over 300 of our young people in its ‘Annual Prize Giving Ceremony’. The sports hall was converted into a venue fit for the Oscars for the occasion.
Pupils, parents, staff, Governors, sponsors and guests applauded the success of our work this year.
Our special guest of honour was former pupil Rae Morris, now a celebrity in her own right – singer songwriter. Rae presented many of the awards and spoke about her love for the school and how it had encouraged her to go for her dreams aiming high. Rae also encouraged pupils to join in and take all the opportunities on offer to make the best of themselves. We were fortunate in our timing as Rae was due to fly out to America to promote her new single – ‘Reborn’, we were lucky enough to get a preview of this too, this same week the song was Radio 1’s ‘Record of the Week!’
Jo Snape Headteacher of Baines Primary School also presented awards in this her ‘moving on’ year. Best Wishes to Jo!
Our Chair of Governors presented new awards for this year, after his first full year in charge. Mr Angus MacLeod took pleasure in awarding those pupils in each year who had been nominated for 5 or more subject awards – the pinnacle of academic achievement.
Mr Warnock spoke of the schools successes this year thanking everyone for their contributions. Highlighting our examination results, the number of parents making a positive choice for St George’s (over 500 for 210 places) also the schools sporting and performing arts achievements. Our new senior prefect team were announced on the evening and presented to the school, pressed into action straight away their first meeting was the very next day!
The finale of the evening was a fantastic, powerful display of Dance by our ‘Lancashire Champions’ showing the spirit and teamwork we have come to expect from TEAM SG – thanks to all concerned.
