Prayers for the Second Half of the Autumn Term 2018

Welcome back! We continue to thank you for your prayer support.

w/c 05.11.18 – Remembrance (Christian value = Reverence)

‘The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them.’  John 15:13

God, our refuge and strength, bring near the day when wars shall cease and poverty and pain shall end, that earth may know the peace of heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

(This is one of the collects – an official Church prayer – for Remembrance Sunday.)

w/c 12.11.18 – Anti-Bullying Week

“So, in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 7:12

Loving God, I pray for anyone who is being bullied.  May they find the strength not to take it anymore and the courage to tell someone about it to get it stopped.  Thank you that you’re on the side of those who are hard done by in life.  May they know your presence with them.  Amen.

w/c 19.11.18 – Peace in a conflicted world (Christian value = Peace)

‘God will settle disputes among great nations.

They will hammer their swords into ploughs

and their spears into pruning knives.
Nations will never again go to war,
never prepare for battle again.’

Isaiah 2:4

Loving God,

“Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.”

In the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.

(The quotation is from a song by Miller and Miller.)

w/c 26.11.18 – Year 10 Charity Week – “Age UK” – (Christian value = Service)

Jesus said, ‘This is what I command you: Love each other as I have loved you.’

John 15:12

we pray for all those who,God of compassion and grace,

through age and infirmity,

find themselves imprisoned

within the loneliness of home,

watching a world outside that

once had their full involvement

increasingly pass them by.

Be with and bless them, Lord,

along with family and carers

calling through the week to help.

May they know that they are loved,

and feel your arms support themstill precious in your sight,

in the day and through the night.  Amen.

w/c 03.12.18 – Patience (Church Season = Advent)

‘Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.’

Romans 12:12

Father, can I be honest? I am tired of waiting. Waiting is hard, painful, exhausting. But I know that learning to wait well is a hope-giving thing. So help me wait well. Help me cling to you as I wait. Please, Lord, let your peace rule in my heart as I learn to trust you a bit more each day. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.

w/c 10.12.18 – Why Christmas?

‘For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.’

John 3:16

“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound….”  Loving God thank you for loving us so very much that you acted to bring humanity back into relationship with you through Jesus.  May I find the time to think through what this means to me personally.  Amen.

‘And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.’  John 1:14

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Christmas!
